He’s been golfing for a quarter-century, and he’s only 33.

Meet Darin Vaughn the head PGA professional at the Twin Lakes Golf Club just north of Rathdrum, Idaho.

Darin says he “grew up” at Spokane’s Wandermere Golf Course, his father Ron’s home course. By now, Darin has bested his dad – a 14 handicap player – on the links. Darin’s handicap is zero.

His earliest competitions were with the Washington Juniors. He attended Oregon State and Eastern Washington University on golf scholarships and graduated from the latter school with an English degree.

While in college he worked at the Liberty Lake and MeadowWood courses near Spokane, and began working as an assistant pro at Twin Lakes in 2001. A year later he was appointed to the top job.

That includes running the pro shop, setting up tournaments, overseeing daily play, the practice range, the marshals’ program, marketing, administering the club’s Web site as well as teaching.

If that’s not enough, he coaches the golf team for the nearby Lakeland High School.

Darin carries a mixed bag: a Ping G-5 driver, Bridgestone 5 wood and Bridgestone 22-degree hybrid. His irons, from number 4 through his sand, gap and lob wedges, are Hogan Apex, and his putter is a McGregor.
